Rapidly changing market demands in which products have to be manufactured ever more quickly, flexibly and in diminishing quantities require computing power and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in order to optimize production capacities to fulfill customer Needs. Edge computing is critical for the future development of IoT as use cases with demands for real-time in-field analytics grows in popularity. In a digital factory in the future AI has to be applied to data gathered from industrial sensors, and from the computing units itself, to automate and accelerate edge computing for applications like image-processing. Artificial intelligence (AI) processing today is mostly done in a cloud-based data center. The majority of AI processing is dominated by training of deep learning models, which requires heavy compute capacity. Diversity of AI applications grows, the centralized, cloud-based training comes to a frontier. AI processing is moving to the edge device.
